SC/ST Cell

The SC/ST Cell is a statutory body prescribed by UGC to ensure the effective implementation of government policies regarding SC/ST, provide a supportive environment, and address the grievances of students and staff belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). This cell acts as a bridge between the university administration and SC/ST individuals, upholding the constitutional mandate for social justice and equity. The committee has a tenure of 3 years from the issue of this notification. Following is the composition of the Cell:

2. Terms of Reference of the Committee

The SC/ST cell serves multiple functions aimed at empowerment and grievance redressal:

  1. Implementation of Government Policies: Monitoring and enforcing the government policies for SC/ST candidates.
  2. Grievance Redressal: Functioning as a specialized cell to resolve academic, administrative, and social grievances of SC/ST students and employees.
  3. Awareness and Information Dissemination: Circulating information regarding Government of India, State Government, and UGC directives concerning scholarships, fellowships, and other welfare schemes.
  4. Data Collection and Reporting: Maintaining updated data on the enrolment, dropout rates, and employment of SC/ST individuals, and submitting required annual reports to the UGC.
  5. Support and Mentoring: Providing guidance and counselling to SC/ST students on academic and personal matters to help them manage university life effectively.
  6. Remedial Coaching: Organizing remedial coaching and skill-upgradation programs to bring SC/ST students at par with the general student body.
  7. Safe and Secure Environment: Ensuring a campus environment free from discrimination, caste-based harassment, or exploitation.
  8. Coordinate with other committees: SC/ST Cell shall coordinate with other committees on different issues, if required, particularly with the Equal Opportunities Cell.
